Meet Your Coach
Carlos Ayala
Coach Carlos Ayala is the heart of Fence MI — a dedicated sabre specialist who has spent his career turning first-time students into confident competitors. His coaching blends sharp technical precision with real patience, so every fencer, from a nervous beginner to a tournament-bound athlete, gets the attention they need to grow.
Carlos built Fence MI around one belief: that sabre fencing builds character as much as it builds skill. Every class he teaches is grounded in respect, discipline, and the drive to compete — the same values that have shaped fencers who've gone on to fence competitively and pursue the sport at the college level.
Athletic Background:
Carlos has had the privilege of teaching at international fencing camps across four countries:
the United States, Mexico, Italy, and the Philippines.
Meet Your Coach
Luís Ángel Patiño Matamoros
With over 25 years of coaching experience, Luis has guided many athletes to the top of the national podium. He has coached a fencer who qualified for the Cadet and Junior World Championships. Under his leadership, athletes have earned multiple
medals at Pan American Youth Championships over three consecutive years, as well as at national and regional tournaments in the United States.
Athletic Background:
Luis began fencing in 1989 and went on to a 15-year athletic career marked by numerous national and international medals. He represented his country as a member of the national team and earned a bronze medal at the Pan American Cadet Championships.
